Your character’s background is a collection of characteristics that represent the place and occupation that were most formative before your character embarked on a life of adventure. Each background includes a brief narrative of what your character’s past might have been like.
Parts of a Background
A background includes the following:
Ability Scores. A background lists four Ability Scores. Increase three of them by 1.
Saving Throws. Distribute 4 Ranks among a list of Saving Throws listed in background.
General Skill Ranks. Distribute 8 Ranks among a list of General Skills listed in background.
Expert Skill Ranks. Distribute 3 Ranks among a list of Expert Skills listed in background.
Talent. A background grants a free Talent or two.
Equipment. A background provides free Equipment.
Initial Wealth. A background specifies character’s starting wealth.
